Who we are
AttractionMap is operated by Oops Lab LLC ("we", "us"). This policy covers the AttractionMap mobile app and this website.
Information we collect
We collect information you provide directly to us, such as when you create an account, add attractions, or contact us for support. This may include your email address, username, and any content you submit. If you choose to fill them in, your profile can also include your first and last name, a location you type, and a short bio.
You can browse attractions without an account. If you sign in, we also store your account identifier, saved attractions, and submission and moderation history so you can use those features across sessions.
Location information
With your permission, the app accesses your device location to center the map and calculate nearby distances. A map pin you deliberately submit is separate from your current device location. If staff approve a submitted attraction or update, its saved coordinates become public map data. You can disable location access at any time through your device settings.
Location is used while the app is open. When the map follows your location, requests for attractions and map tiles can reveal the area around you. Nearby requests identify geographic areas, and the attraction service logs rounded map bounds for troubleshooting. If you request a route preview, its starting coordinates are sent to our service even if no preview is available. We do not record a background driving history.
How we use your information
We use the information we collect to provide, maintain, and improve our services, including to display attractions, process your requests, and communicate with you.
Public contributions
Pending attractions, suggested updates, and staged photos are private to the contributor and authorized staff during review. When a contribution is approved, accepted attraction facts, coordinates, descriptions, and photos may be visible to anyone who browses the public map. Your email address and account identifier are not shown with the public attraction.
Service providers and sharing
We use AWS Amplify, Cognito, DynamoDB, and S3 to provide accounts, map data, and uploaded images. These services process the information needed to operate the app.
Map styles and tiles load from OpenFreeMap, which receives standard request data such as your IP address and the map area being shown. Place search, and the address shown for a pin you place, use your device's built-in geocoder, which receives the text you search for or the pin's coordinates. Apple provides this service on iPhone; the provider on Android depends on the device and its system services.
Some attraction photos load directly from the credited source, includingRoadsideAmerica. Those image hosts receive your IP address and the requested image URL. Map, geocoding, and image providers handle these requests under their own privacy policies, which may allow request data to be used for advertising, personalization, and analytics. The app does not attach your account email or account identifier to requests for these external map tiles or source photos.
Expo delivers app updates. Update checks send a random installation identifier, operating system, and app update information. If an update fails to launch, a later check can also send the update's fatal error message to help diagnose the failure. AWS also assigns a guest identifier for access to public attraction data. These identifiers are separate from an advertising identifier.
Attraction-name matching and the Recent search list are stored or processed on your device. Place-search text is sent to the device's geocoder as described above. Choosing Open Maps or Share sends the selected destination or attraction link to the application you choose.
Retention and deletion
We retain account information while your account is active and keep pending contribution data while it is needed for review. Account deletion removes your account, profile, saved attractions, pending submissions, and private uploads. Approved community content may remain without your account identity so the shared map remains useful, unless removal is required by law or we accept a removal request.
Technical and security records are handled according to the relevant service provider's retention practices. For example, OpenFreeMap may retain IP addresses and requested URLs in error logs for seven days, or temporarily during a security investigation for up to 30 days. Account deletion does not automatically erase these providers' operational logs. Contact us about information that remains in approved content or for help with a data-removal request.
Delete your AttractionMap account
In the AttractionMap app, open the Settings tab and choose Delete Account. When deletion completes, the app signs you out.
If you can't use the app, email dev@oopslab.ai from the email address on your account with the subject "Delete my account". We confirm the request came from you and complete the deletion within 30 days.
Deleted: your sign-in account, profile (username, name, location, bio), saved attractions, pending submissions and suggestions, and photos that were not approved.
Kept: attractions and photos that staff already approved stay on the public map without your account identity, so the shared map keeps working.
Data security
We implement appropriate security measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. Requests to our account, attraction-data, photo-storage, and update services use encrypted connections.
Your rights
You can update profile information in the app and delete your account from Settings > Delete Account. To ask about access, correction, or removal of information that cannot be managed in the app, email dev@oopslab.ai.
